The Trustin Free-Shoulder Saddle Story

TrustIn is the brand name which has superseded the popular Verhan saddle range, both originally conceived and produced by Bernardo Vergara. The Free Shoulder™ solution was originally discovered by trying to solve the issue of reduced performance in polo ponies due to improper saddle fit and positioning. To solve the problem we combined expertise from polo, dressage, and jumping to create a patented solution now available to all disciplines.

In trying to evaluate why our polo ponies’ backs were sore we discovered virtually all polo ponies, jumper, and dressage horses are in varying degrees of pain due to improper saddle fit. The result of this pain is drastically reduced performance. There is a strong need and tradition for polo players and jumper riders to be positioned as far forward on the horse’s back as possible. Because of this, the rider places the saddle on top of the horse’s shoulder when tacking up. The shoulder of the horse is not designed to carry the weight of the rider and as a result causes chiropractic misalignment, bursitis, inversion (high head, hollow back) and atrophy of the top line muscles. All of these issues are plaguing the equestrian sports in all disciplines and in turn preventing the horse from performing at full capacity. This is painful for the horse, expensive for the owner, and reduces overall performance.
