About Myler Bits
Myler Bits originate in the USA and have been invented by the three Myler brothers. The anatomical shape allows the horse to swallow easier and is more relaxed. The pressure of the mouthpiece is spread evenly at the bars and the tongue with an anatomically shaped bit. The straighter a mouthpiece, the more pressure on the tongue. The more tongue freedom, the more pressure on the bars. In the center is a roll, which provides the pressure distribution on the tongue. The two sides of a Myler bit can move independently of each other; therefore a Myler bit lies very stable and quiet in the horse’s mouth. So, the rider’s aids are much more precise. It stimulates the balance and relaxation of a horse. This ergonomic shape of the Myler bit distributes pressure more evenly over the tongue, mouth and bars of the mouth than traditional single and double jointed mouthpieces. Each mouthpiece has brass inlays which stimulates the production of saliva.
There are 3 degrees of ‘action’ in a Myler bit which is indicated in Levels.
Level 1: Little tongue freedom, more pressure on the tongue than the layers. Suitable for horses that are just starting their training or have had little training so far. And horses that haven’t been ridden for a while.
Level 2: The pressure is distributed over the tongue and the layers. Suitable for horses who have already had basic training. For riders who already have a soft and more relaxed hand. This bit gives more tongue freedom than Level 1 bits. Very suitable to teach the horse to relax.
Level 3: Lots of tongue freedom and most of the pressure of the mouthpiece will be applied to the layers. Suitable for experienced riders and horses. Through this mouthpiece a rider can give very controlled and precise instructions to the horse.
