Horse owner and Interior Designer now becomes Hat Creator
I started this shop in hopes of providing a pretty and stylish alternative to wearing the unflattering same-old safety helmet in Equestrian events. In the fall of 2013 I started Carriage Driving my older mare who needed a job and realized how much fun it was. My goal for the 2014 show season was to attend several of the local ADT’s and schooling shows.
Usually I crumb around in sloppy clothes – who needs designer jeans to muck out the stalls – but when it came time to get ready for my first pleasure driving show, WOW, I had nothing appropriate to wear. So I started visiting the second-hand stored and was easily able to find a great selection of blazers, but the hat selections were limited and a decorative helmet cover just didn’t exist. So I went to work.
My Mom had taught me to sew when I was very young and all those years of art, drafting and design classes made doing this a natural choice.
I made my first helmet cover, wore it at the horse show and won the reinsmanship class where a large % of the judging takes into consideration ones turnout. I got so many wonderful complements and encouragement from other competitors. And so it was started.
Trying to make a helmet hat/cover that didn’t make me look like “Big Head Fred” was a challenge, but after several flops and many pattern alterations I feel I have created a helmet hat that anyone would feel beautiful wearing.
