Absolutely stunning, Chilean ‘Avio’ saddle with real leather and sheepskin throughout. This saddle is in hardly used condition. Ticketed as a 15.5ins seat, and we measured the seat base to be 10.5ins from behind the pommel to the front of the cantle at the level of the seat. Leg space is 10ins. Measured 9.5ins at the bottom of the tree between its two points. It has two layers of very thick sheepskin and is beautifully tooled and made with various leathers. Comes with 2ins thick saddle pad. Part felt, part leather.
These saddles are purpose built for long days on horseback and are very comfortable for both rider and horse. The base is a wooden frame held together by pieces of metal in the front and back. The seat is formed by a broad band of rawhide tied in between the frame. It’s covered by a wool-filled pad, followed by 2 – 6 layers of sheep fleece and a leather cover. All parts are strapped together by the “cincha” which holds the saddle on the horse’s back.
The Chilean “capacho” stirrups are made of leather and metal and fully cup the front of the rider’s foot to offer good protection while riding through bushes and prevent branches and vines from tangling about your foot.
